Resolution on BRICS collaboration in the field of Gravity Astrophysics and Cosmology

Followed by the memorandum of understanding between BRICS member states, Professor Anzhong Wang came up with an idea to initiate an active collaboration among scientists from BRICS member states in the field of Gravity, Astrophysics and Cosmology. He invited experts from the said field from BRICS member states to 2015 Annual Meeting of the Chinese Physical Society (Division of Gravitation and Relativistic Astrophysics) held in Hangzhou from June 21 to June 25. The invitees included E. Abdalla and J. Alcanizfrom Brazil, Ronggen Cai and Yungui Gong from China, T. Padmanabhan and M. Sami from India,Dimitry Gal'tsovand A.A. Starobinsky from Russia, and G. Ellis and Roy Maartens from South Africa.
During the Chinese Physical Society meetingin Hangzhou, on June 23, 2015, Prof. Wang convened a meeting of colleagues from BRICS member states. Colleagues who could not visit Hangzhou and could not participate in the meeting(G. Ellis and D. Gal’tsov, Roy Maartens, T. Padmanabhan, A. A. Starobinsky),  gave their consent to go ahead with the initiatives, they were updated about the deliberations by email. In the meeting, Professor Wang put forward his idea about the need of BRICS collaboration in the field of Gravity, Astrophysics and Cosmology. After a thorough discussion on the philosophy as well as on the modus operandi of the mission, the members came to a conclusion that a flat form necessary to bring together the experts from BRICS was needed. It was strongly felt that we should form a BRICS association of Gravity Astrophysics and Cosmology to make a beginning. It was resolved to prepare a write up that would include a road map of activities and the Bye laws of the proposed association. It was further resolved to explore the possibility of giving legal format to the association. The minutes of the meeting held in Hangzhou that were circulated to the members are attached herewith.

The following members attended the meeting:E. Abdalla (eabdalla@usp.br); J. Alcaniz (jailson.alcaniz@gmail.com); Ronggen Cai (cairg@itp.ac.cn); Yungui Gong (yggong@hust.edu.cn), M. Sami (samijamia@gmail.com); Anzhong Wang (Anzhong_Wang@baylor.edu), and Tao Zhu (Tao_Zhu@baylor.edu). Dr. Zhu made notes of the event, and took photos at the end of meeting.
